The night was fading, the stench of flat mountain dew and stale pizza hung in the cramped room that hovered over the garage. The “Ruff” as the neighborhood kids called him, stood in a manner that would undoubtedly convince you of defeat. In his room he stared motionless at the glowing screen. The last bit of victory shown on that screen fed from the wires of a super nintendo. The Ronny of the west, Ronny of the east, the southern most point of Ronny, the northern king of Ronny, burned in the halls of East orange and stained in the oceans of Aiken…yes, this trained Ronny, constantly practicing the balisong, his weapon of choice, did not go undefeated. Rather, he hung in solace and thought of nothing but the ending game. Let us not be distracted by the broken pork rinds that decorated the carpet or the mounds of trash that collected at every corner of this humid box, or the dirty horizontal mirrors that lay on stools, chairs, or any other surface that would lend enough room. Instead, let us focus on the the hero. The Ruff Ronny, the defeated, the abandoned, wretched soul, drenched in addiction and anxiety, false hopes and escapist realities. The very fault of his own fault and the blank investments that followed. Yes, this hero, who still deals with the stress of your overwhelming acceptance and high standards with enough hope to still see a lousy seat at your perfect table.
